Law Schools Can Prepare You For a Legal Career

Law Schools instruct prospective lawyers in both the academic and vocational aspects of the legal system. In the United States, Law School is considered to be a professional, post-graduate degree program. At Law School, post-graduates acquire an academic and theoretical grounding in the legal system in preparation for a professional career. The professional Law degree is known as the Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.S.D.). Other Law degrees include the Doctor of Judicial Science (S.J.D.), and Doctor of Comparative Law (D.C.L.). Once the advanced degree has been obtained, the prospective lawyer must pass a state bar examination in order to become a licensed practicing attorney. Nearly all state bar associations require that the applicant’s Law School be approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).
